Think of Watergate Bay and you probably picture surfers riding the crashing waves, but this month, the golden sands will be taken over by sportsmen of an entirely different ilk: some of the world’s best polo players will descend on Cornwall to treat spectators to a thrilling tournament on the beach. Hosted by the Watergate Bay Hotel and sponsored by Aspall cyder, the three-day festival promises fun for all ages. As well as polo matches, there will be stunt shows, jousting and live music. Providing refreshments, there’s an Aspall beach bar, Jacquart Champagne garden, street food stalls and an Argentinian asado barbecue. Plus, the beach party to end all beach parties. And if you don’t want to miss out on any of the action, the stylishly laid-back Watergate Bay Hotel, enviably perched above the sands, is the only place to stay.
