Regattas and Culture on the French Riviera
Sponsored post.
For many, autumn is a favourite time on the French Riviera, when the sun still shines but the heat is less oppressive, and gentle winds signal the start of popular sailing regattas, two of which take place in Cannes and Antibes. But the French Riviera is famed for its cultural appreciation, too, with art, dance, design and jazz also on offer in the later months of the year. Keep on reading to learn more about some of the most prestigious autumn events along the French Riviera.
Sailing regattas, dance and jazz are some of the events to look forward to
The annual Voiles d’Antibes kicked-off the sailing season along the Cote d'Azur on 13th September 2021. This prestigious event, held at the Port Vauban, Antibes, is the first major meeting of the Mediterranean season and welcomes some of the world’s most beautiful sailing yachts, including vintage yachts built before 1950 and classic yachts from before 1976. If you missed it, don’t worry. The sailing season continues in the Bay of Cannes, with the Régates Royales taking place between the 19th and 25th September, celebrating the world’s most beautiful classic and vintage yachts. Organised by the Yacht Club of Cannes, here the crème de la crème of classic yachting will gather in the stunning Bay for a unique show, both on and off the water.
Contemporary dance and art
Another popular Cannes festival is the biennial International Dance Festival, which takes place this year between 27th November and 12th December at several venues in Cannes, Antibes and further afield. Since its creation in 1984, it has become one of the world's most prestigious and recognised contemporary dance festivals, presenting new talents and innovative works created by renowned international dance companies. Art lovers will appreciate the sculptural glass works of Xavier Carrère, who is in residency in Biot’s Galerie Pierini from 14th to 24th September, with an exhibition of his work held between 25th September and 13th November. Combining glass, metals and wood, he creates fascinating and elegant sculptures for the interior, for private gardens and for public spaces.
