Raise a toast to Golborne Road’s newest opening, lively new neighbourhood wine bar, restaurant and music venue Caia. Since its opening last month, head chef Jessica Donovan has been wowing diners with a delicious menu of grill-based dishes produced from the very best seasonal produce – think asparagus with smoked onion to start, followed by monkfish with ancho chilli and beetroot, and an irresistible smoked cheesecake with Kentish strawberries to round off the meal. In the intimate 10-seater wine room, a floor-to-ceiling display showcases the exceptional wine list, which has been put together by expert Beth Brickenden and general manager Florent Giovannone to complement the foodie offering. The selection covers everything from storied producers to young upstarts and local London wineries.
The basement is the beating heart of Caia, here, from lunchtime through to the end of the evening, guests can enjoy a carefully curated vinyl collection by Stranger Than Paradise Records founder Noreen McShane, taking them from the heyday of rare jazz, funk, tropical and disco, right up to the more sophisticated soulful selections from the here and now. And a number of takeovers and residencies from some of London’s leading DJs, record stores, label owners and producers have also been planned. Co-founder Tim Lang tells us: “We’re bringing together some of the best artists in London which is going to add something new and fun to the neighbourhood.” We like the sound of that.
