Celebrating women and wine

He once said that wine was “one of the most civilized things in the world,” and though we normally agree wholeheartedly with Hemingway, we have to admit that thus far, wine has been almost directly responsible for some of our most categorically uncivilised moments. It’s definitely time we started taking the subject of all things oenological that little bit more seriously…

As if on cue, news has just reached us of The Dorchester Collection’s magnificent female sommeliers, who, in celebration of International Women’s Day next week, will be embarking on a wine themed road trip taking in London, Paris and Milan.

The festivities kick off between 7 and 8pm on the 6 March with an intimate wine Wednesday at 45 Park Lane, hosted by head sommelier Vanessa Cinti. Designed to celebrate the women behind the grape, the intimate event will compare Old World and New World wines, with wine selections from America, France and Italy. Tickets cost £100 and include wines and canapés, to book a place, contact the hotel.

The very definition of civilised, if you ask us.
