This May, one of London’s most recognisable estate agents, Hamptons, returns to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, partnering once again with Garden Club London. Their latest collaboration, The Komorebi Garden, is a serene, small-space design that invites visitors to pause, breathe and reconnect with nature – no matter the size of their outdoor space.
Entering the Container Garden category for the first time, The Komorebi Garden is a soulful pocket forest designed by rising talent Masa Taniguchi. A first-time solo entrant at Chelsea, Masa brings both technical expertise and a poetic sensibility to the project. Named after the Japanese word for “sunlight filtering through trees”, the garden offers a beautifully immersive experience rooted in Masa’s personal journey – from childhood in Nagoya to his horticultural studies in North Wales, and now his role as Lead Horticulturalist at Garden Club London.
With elegant birch groves, a raised viewing platform, natural log water feature, and charcoal feature walls, the garden encourages quiet reflection. Sustainable touches abound – from 100% recycled tiles and self-collected green waste, to charcoal used for air purification. Portable lighting and clever planting make this an inspiring template for transforming balconies, terraces or underused corners into places of peace.
“Our aim is to show that beauty, creativity and tranquillity are possible in even the smallest of spaces,” says Lesley Cairns, Managing Director at Hamptons. “This year’s garden is not only immersive and emotional – it’s replicable.”
After the show, The Komorebi Garden will be thoughtfully repurposed, with hard landscaping donated to a Kent school wildlife project and other elements auctioned for charity.
