There’s art for art’s sake, and then there’s art for one incredibly worthy cause. This week sees the opening of a seven-day public exhibition of works, generously donated by some of the country’s most celebrated contemporary artists, in aid of Macmillian Cancer Support. The show, taking place at Charlotte Street’s Darren Baker Gallery will culminate in a VIP silent auction to raise money for the cancer charity. Exhibitors include Idris Khan, famed for his ethereally beautiful multilayered photography; Polly Morgan, whose work takes taxidermy to the higher echelons of the fine art universe; and Rob Ryan, whose wonderfully intricate papercut pieces are now so widely adored you’ve probably received a birthday card or two stamped with his instantly recognisable cut outs. Personally, we’ll have our eye on Ryan’s utterly magical Look Closer. And looking closer we certainly will be – what that man can do with a scalpel is nothing short of astounding… The Macmillan De’Longhi Arts Programme is, we hear, well on its way to achieving its target of a cool £1 million. The money raised will help fund the Macmillan Support Line, a vital telephone service for anyone living with cancer. We’ll be honest, we don’t usually need an excuse to attend an exhibition this exciting. This one’s unmissable. 21 to 27 October, 81 Charlotte Street, W1
