For the love of Rita

Rita Hayworth gave good face, so sang Madonna in her iconic Vogue video of 1990 and she wasn’t wrong. The epitome of classic, Hollywood glamour, Hayworth could practically kill a man with one bat of those deadly, long lashes and that famous pout that said “come on, try me”.

Celebrating the 1940s Love Goddess and all her womanly powers, the BFI are dedicating a season to the flame-haired siren by showing ten of her best-loved films throughout June. Including Cover Girl, You’ll Never Get Rich and You Were Never Lovelier, this is the perfect opportunity to indulge whether you’re already a die-hard fan or you’re yet to fall in love with her – and trust us, you will. As she famously said of her most notable role: “Every man I have ever known has fallen in love with Gilda and awakened with me.” We think there might just be as many women who have fallen under her spell, and we’re not ashamed to admit there are girl crushes aplenty, chez Fabric.

We’ll be at this unapologetically gushing Rita-fest with bells on, not least for big screen style inspiration: just feast your eyes on these jaw-dropping outfits.

Rita Hayworth season opens with Only Angels Have Wings on Saturday 1st June.
