Following the enormously sad news of Robin Williams’ death earlier this week, which sent shockwaves around the world and had us holding back the tears re-watching poignant scenes from Good Will Hunting, Good Morning, Vietnam and even Flubber, Fabric favourite Secret Cinema have announced a London screening of one of the actor’s best-loved, and perhaps most heartrending movies, 1989’s Oscar-winning Dead Poets Society.
The tribute event, featuring live poetry readings, music and “many secret surprises to commemorate the life of Robin Williams” will take place this Friday 15 August at the Troxy. The night will be run, fittingly, in partnership with mental health charity Mind. Secret Cinema tell us: “We want to honour the extraordinary spirit of Robin Williams and the urgent need to address an issue that concerns all, mental health.” Tickets go on sale here from 1pm today, so get clicking.
If you don’t manage to secure a ticket, fear not: Secret Cinema are hoping a number of simulataneous screenings will take place “across the UK and beyond” in a joint memorial. We can’t think of a more beautifully appropriate send off. Tissues at the ready…
