Heartwood Inns has restored the pub with a “home-from-home” feel — think relaxed, light and airy interiors, a dog-friendly ethos, and a calendar designed for quick pints, family lunches, midweek plans and weekend meet-ups.

Cosy corners are made for lingering

A classic pub, thoughtfully updated.

Located in the heart of the community, the pub has been carefully restored to celebrate its traditional character while adding Heartwood’s signature style. Alongside refreshed interiors, guests can look forward to a brand-new rear extension, creating a relaxed and inviting space to eat, drink and socialise.

General Manager Filip Tlustochowicz, who will be leading the team at The Woodman, says the focus is firmly on creating a true neighbourhood pub with something for everyone. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome locals back to The Woodman. This pub has always been an important part of Southgate, and our aim is to transform it back into a place where people can drop in any day of the week — whether that’s for a quick pint, a family meal, or one of our weekly events.”

A home from home at The Woodman

Seasonal comfort food, quality drinks — and proper Sunday roasts.

Food will be at the heart of the pub’s offering, with a seasonally changing menu centred on comforting pub classics made using quality, sustainably sourced British ingredients. In the kitchen, Head Chef Ram Rana Magar will be serving familiar favourites alongside seasonal dishes — and, of course, Sunday roasts with bottomless trimmings.

The drinks menu will include local cask ales, craft beers, a curated wine list and classic cocktails, alongside a changing list of seasonal serves.

Steak nights, live music Fridays, Tuesday quizzes — and ‘Paws in the Pub’

The Woodman is also set to become a lively social hub, with a calendar of regular events planned from the outset, including Steak Night (Wednesdays), when guests can enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine when ordering two steaks, from award-winning butcher Aubrey Allen; live music on Fridays to kickstart the weekend; and a Quiz & games night on Tuesdays for midweek fun aplenty.

Beer lovers will also have plenty to look forward to, with Meet the Brewer events planned throughout February, featuring local favourites including Portobello Brewery (9 Feb), Timothy Taylor’s (16 Feb) and London Pride (23 Feb) — offering guests the chance to sample beers and meet some of the people behind the pints.

Families and dog owners are firmly on the guest list too. During February, the pub will host ‘Paws in the Pub’ every Saturday from 10am — a relaxed dog meet with complimentary tea and coffee for owners, plus special Woodman dog bandanas for four-legged visitors.

Filip adds, “we really want The Woodman to feel like a home from home. Whether you’re popping in with the dog after a walk, bringing the family for lunch or joining us for live music with friends, you’re always guaranteed a warm welcome here.”

With its doors set to open very soon, The Woodman is shaping up to be a vibrant new chapter for a familiar Southgate favourite.
