We believe that boys thrive when their natural energy and enthusiasm is channelled into purposeful learning and positive challenge, extraordinary things happen. This insight underpins our approach at Wetherby Prep; we give boys the guidance, focus and opportunity they need to succeed.

What sets Wetherby apart?

It’s in the balance we strike between academic rigour and nurture. Our boys –ages 4 to 13 – are challenged to aim high, while being supported to achieve their best in a way that feels authentic to them.

We focus on: Academic strength: Rigorous preparation for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ assessments, as well as future entrance exams, without losing sight of curiosity and joy. Pastoral care: A supportive environment where every boy is known, valued, and encouraged to flourish. Character building: Opportunities inside and outside the classroom that develop resilience, creativity, and empathy.

This model ensures Wetherby boys leave us not only with exceptional results, but also with the tools and temperament to thrive wherever life takes them.

From Wetherby, to the world

Among our Year 8 boys, we are proud to celebrate five prestigious scholarships: Music Exhibition at Eton College,, Academic Scholarship at Dulwich College, Music Exhibition at St Paul’s School, The John Colet Academic Scholarship at St Paul’s School and The Foundation Academic Scholarship at St Paul’s School.

Our destination results are a testament to the power of high expectations, exceptional teaching, strong leadership and individualised pastoral care each boy receives at Wetherby Prep. Whether they receive scholarships or not, many of our boys go on to London’s top senior schools such as Westminster, St Paul’s and Dulwich – or to world-renowned boarding schools like Eton, Harrow and Winchester. Many also choose to remain within the Wetherby family, progressing seamlessly to Wetherby Senior (boys) or Wetherby Pembridge (co-ed), ensuring continuity of values and a strong sense of belonging.

Success beyond grades

At Wetherby Prep, success is measured not only by exam results but by the young people of character they become. This year, the 13+ leavers are: Confident communicators who can stand up, speak out, and articulate idea, inquisitive problem-solvers who relish challenges, from science experiments to debating competitions and caring friends who support one another, embodying the school’s values of kindness and respect.

Our boys have embraced leadership roles, excelled in national competitions, and grown into the sort of young men who leave a positive mark wherever they go. Through it all, three values shine consistently: kindness, respect, and perseverance. These aren’t simply words on a page; they are lived every day in our classrooms, on our playing fields, and in friendships.

Life Beyond the Classroom

Ask any Wetherby boy what makes school life memorable, and they’ll most likely talk about the adventures that happen after the books are closed. With over 60 clubs each term, before school, after school and on Friday afternoons, there is something to suit all talents and interests.

For the creative: we offer Pottery, Art Techniques, and even a Pokémon Card Club (born from pupil suggestion!). For the sporty: there is Football, Rock Climbing, Pickleball, and Wetherby Outdoors, complete with Hyde Park adventures and den-building challenges. For the curious: there’s Italian, Chess, Warhammer, Trading Cards, and countless more. For the musical: From choir to rock bands and drumming, our music rooms are always alive with sound.

These clubs are more than hobbies; they build the confidence, camaraderie, and the all-important ‘can-do’ spirit that defines a Wetherby boy.

Introducing: our new Reception class

Wetherby Prep is part of a family of schools that offers our boys continuity, stability, and the reassurance of shared values. Our acclaimed and much-loved Wetherby School Notting Hill and Wetherby Kensington provide a secure, nurturing start for boys aged 4–8. And in September 2026, we were thrilled to open a brand-new Reception class.

From here, boys may move seamlessly through Wetherby Prep before progressing to Wetherby Senior, Wetherby Pembridge or boarding and other London day schools.

Our goal is simple: to help every boy discover his strengths, stretch his limits, and build the skills and self-belief to succeed. That’s the Wetherby Way.
