At Wetherby Senior School, boys aged 11–18 benefit from a rigorous curriculum delivered by subject specialists, ensuring every pupil reaches their academic ambitions. The GCSE and A Level results speak for themselves: summer 2025 placed Wetherby Senior in the top 1% of schools nationally for value added by its teachers, a testament to the school’s dedication to excellence. The academically ambitious curriculum is complemented by a broad co-curriculum, recently bolstered by the acquisition of a 15-acre sports facility under 15 minutes from the school’s central London campus

Outstanding A Level Achievements

Every summer, we are proud to celebrate the incredible results our boys receive; this year is no exception. Sixteen percent of papers were graded A*, 42% achieved A* or A, and three-quarters of all results were A*, A, or B. Several pupils achieved multiple A* grades, highlighting the effectiveness of small classes, expert teaching, and a comprehensive programme of progress monitoring across Years 12 and 13.

Our boys typically study three A Levels alongside an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with a broad selection of subjects ranging from English, Maths, and Sciences to Humanities, Arts, Physical Education, Computer Science, and Philosophy. This combination of depth and breadth prepares students for academic success and personal growth.

Pathways to Leading Universities

Since our first A Level cohort in 2020, Wetherby Senior pupils have gone on to study at Russell Group universities and prestigious institutions overseas. In 2025, 31% of leavers pursued overseas education – including the Ivy League, USC, NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Princeton, and others. Other overseas destinations include McGill in Montreal, Bocconi in Milan, and the IE in Madrid.

Back in the UK, students progress to top universities such as Imperial College London, LSE, Durham, King’s College, UCL, and the University of Bristol. With 85% of leavers entering their first-choice university, Wetherby’s bespoke guidance – starting from GCSE options through to tailored Sixth Form support – ensures every boy has a clear path to achieve his ambitions.

GCSE Success and Momentum

Wetherby Senior is equally committed to excellence at GCSE, ranking again this year in the top 1% nationally for value added. As a result, the most commonly awarded grade for the 2025 GCSE results was a grade 9. Three of the year group were awarded 9 x 9 grades, seven scored 8 x 9 grades and more than half the entire year group scored at least one 9 grade.

Results were strong across the curriculum with more than 40% of all entries graded 9 in Biology, German, Maths and Physics.

Like at A Level, there is a regular programme of testing boys across all subjects with weekly “cycle” tests taking place across all subjects in rotation. Not only does this prepare the pupils for the rigours of the public examinations, but it also allows for regular progress reviews and goal setting.

A School Life Beyond the Classroom

Academics are complemented by world-class pastoral care and a focus on boys’ development. Wetherby Senior was recently nominated as a finalist for Independent Boys’ School of the Year 2025, reflecting its expertise in nurturing boys’ education.

Co-Curricular Excellence

Wetherby Senior offers a broad and vibrant co-curricular programme, with daily after-school sports at the 15-acre Wood Lane facility and over 40 clubs ranging from Warhammer and e-Sports to Debating, Model UN, Persian Language, and Boxing. Music and drama are central to school life; the school’s orchestra was recently crowned Orchestra of the Year by the Independent Schools Association, while annual productions are staged at RADA.

The school also instils a strong sense of social responsibility. Boys raise thousands for national and international charities each year, including Lives Not Knives, reflecting Wetherby Senior’s commitment to shaping thoughtful, well-rounded young men.
