With its busy high street of independent boutiques and businesses, acres of ancient woodland and Heath-side location, this heavenly hillside enclave feels a million miles from central London, but with its boast of being set at the Capital’s highest point, the views are a constant reminder of just how well-connected lucky locals really are.

Local Heroes
Chango Empanadas, N6
“This is a fantastic spot on the high street in Highgate that produces traditional and authentic hand-made Argentinian empanadas and sweet treats called alfajores,” says Ali Ishaq from Savills. “It’s a great place to pop into between viewings for a quick boost of energy. There are plenty of flavours to choose from, including spinach and ricotta, spicy chicken, and dulce de leche, which are a few of our team favourites. It’s a much-treasured local business and the staff in there always take time to chat to us and other customers.”

The Gatehouse, N6
For Benham & Reeves’ Billy Boyle, you can’t beat a beloved local boozer to bring the community together. “This is a family-friendly pub that also serves as one of Highgate’s main community hubs,” he confirms. “The Gatehouse offers traditional pub fare with an Iberian twist. An upstairs theatre and themed evenings, such as live jazz and wine dinners, ensure that there is something for everyone at this beautiful hillside location. And the all-weather garden is a particular favourite with locals.” Cheers to that!

Turquoise Kitchen, N6
Mixing Turkish, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern fare, there’s something for everyone at this lively village eatery – including plentiful veggie and vegan options. Vivienne Harris at Heathgate is a regular at Turquoise Kitchen, telling us: “It’s a really lovely family restaurant with delicious food.” Choose from an extensive menu that includes hot, cold and mixed mezze; charcoal grills and burgers; seafood and salads, as well as a good selection of rude-not-to desserts, from authentic baklavas and sütlaç, to the unapologetically gluttonous chocolate fudge cake. Treats all round!
