From “fake news” to the rise of neo-fascism, these are tumultuous times for modern-day politics. A deep delve into how political uncertainty influences the art world, this exhibition features 26 contemporary artists whose work reacts to today’s divisive climate.
Exploring the role of art in social satire, and in doing so providing light relief, the show’s highlights include Richard Billingham’s Ray’s A Laugh series – confrontational photography, or “squalid realism” as it’s been coined and John Stezaker’s Marriage series, which splices and overlaps publicity shots of iconic film stars, with unsettling results.
