As the years pass, for me, January marks not just a time for making healthy resolutions, but a time to dwell on my ageing skin, too – another year, another line (or ten) and all that. And with that in mind, part of my New Year focus is usually on shaking up my skincare regime.

Needling away

I’ve long been an advocate of Vaishaly’s team of skin miracle workers, praising their miraculous, results-driven facials and beauty treatments, so I’m excited to hear about the clinic’s latest. Going under the needle without the use of Botox or fillers: incorporating acupuncture into their facials for truly transformational results. I’ve used acupuncture in the past to resolve a whole host of health-related issues, so I really believe that it works, and that I have nothing to fear. And it goes without saying that, as with all of the treatments on offer at the clinic, the experience is as important as the results, so I know that relaxation and pampering will come part and parcel.

Escapism

It is everything I expect and more (not least because it means escaping from the kids for two hours on a Sunday morning). My therapist chats to me about my areas of concern before settling me on the comfortable bed and switching on some relaxing music. After thoroughly cleansing my face, she inserts ultra-fine needles into my problem zones. So fine, in fact, that I can barely feel them. While they are left to do their work – they are responsible for stimulating circulation in order to improve collagen production – I’m treated to a relaxing massage of my neck, shoulders, head and hands. After removing the needles the therapist uses a combination of facial massage and jade rolling to soothe the skin.

Tighter and brighter

All too soon, 90 minutes are over. I think I can see an immediate difference – a tighter, brighter complexion – but I’m assured that the real results will be after a couple of days. And will be even more noticeable after a course of six treatments.
